The Who, What, How, and Where of Heartland Share
What is SHARE?
A program designed to build stronger communities and help stretch your food dollars.
Who is eligible to participate in SHARE
All of us. It has nothing to do with income, age, race or place of worship.
It is a 100?% equal opportunity program
How does the SHARE program work?
Local host sites are stared in your neighborhood where you can purchase a SHARE (food package) for $16.00 cash or food stamp (EBT), plus $1.00 cash transportation fee. In return, you will receive good nutritious food.
What kind of food?
Fresh wholesome food. A SHARE will consist of at least four (4) package of frozen meat, fresh vegetables, fresh fruits and two (2a) or more staple items.
What’s the catch?
It does sound too good to be true, doesn’t it! There is one requirement. For each SHARE you purchase, we expect you to put in two (2) hours of volunteer service time. Any purchase more than one SHARE if you wish. The two (2) hours of volunteer service time is as much a part of the purchase price as the $16.00.
What is volunteer service?
Volunteer service id defined as a friendly act of helping your neighbor or community. Anything you do for someone else, without pay (outside the immediate family) qualifies as volunteer service.
Where does the food come from and who pays for it?
The food comes from all over the United States, but is purchased as near to the affiliate as possible. It is purchased directly form the growers and producers, then shipped direct to the warehouse.
